BOSTON—Powerhouse Dynamics The leading Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider for the foodservice and retail industries recently demonstrated the latest ways that connected equipment — from HVAC to refrigerators and fryers — is helping major restaurant brands strengthen their competitive advantage and overall financial performance.
Powerhouse Dynamics, a Middleby company known for its OEM-agnostic Open Kitchen® platform for foodservice companies, showcased its innovations at The North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) Show in Atlanta, February 26–28.
“We’re seeing an accelerating level of interest in the benefits of a connected equipment strategy, including reduced food and energy waste, lower costs, greater operational efficiency, and improved food safety,” said Powerhouse Dynamics President Jay Fiske.
Participants got an up-close look at how detailed performance data and analytics from connected equipment — along with real-time alerts to potential problems — give facility managers a new level of visibility, control, and automation from the cloud.
For example, the Powerhouse Dynamics team showed how data from connected fryers helps restaurants ensure high oil quality while controlling costs by preventing premature disposal of cooking oil, an expensive resource for foodservice operators.
The team also highlighted connected equipment applications, including:
- Flagging sources of energy waste such as rooftop unit malfunctions
- Identifying maintenance needs in time to prevent equipment breakdowns
- Distributing limited-time-only menus to thousands of ovens within minutes
- Freeing short-staffed teams from routine tasks like temperature checks
- Recording hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) data
