Boston, MA, September 15, 2015 – Powerhouse Dynamics, creator of the award-winningSiteSage® energy and asset management system, has released the first version of a “Smart Kitchen” application that wirelessly connects ovens from several manufacturers to the cloud-based SiteSage platform. This combination allows commercial kitchens to continuously monitor cooking temperatures to ensure product quality, and enables real time alerting to possible problems. The system also automatically produces “HACCP” food safety reports, eliminating what was previously a very time consuming and error-prone manual process, and offers a permanent, archived record of cooking temperatures and times.
This initial release of SiteSage Smart Kitchen works with a new generation of “Cook & Hold” ovens that automatically switch from “cook” to “hold” mode without kitchen staff intervention. Earlier versions of these ovens are in use in thousands of commercial kitchens across the globe. The ovens provide precise low temperature cooking and enhance productivity by enabling overnight automated operation and by holding food for hours without compromising product quality.
SiteSage Smart Kitchen also tracks temperatures and automates food safety reporting for refrigeration equipment and additional types of food warming equipment.
SiteSage, in use at thousands of restaurants and other small commercial facilities across North and Central America, combines enterprise-wide equipment controls with granular monitoring and patented analytics to deliver energy as well as equipment maintenance cost savings. SiteSage Smart Kitchen can be delivered as an integrated component of the full SiteSage platform or as a stand-alone module.
Powerhouse Dynamics worked with Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. and two oven manufacturers to develop and test the solution. A SiteSage wireless hub connected to each oven passes key information to the SiteSage servers. SiteSage software monitors, analyzes and displays the data, provides real-time alerts, and produces automated reports. More than 1,000 of these specially equipped ovens have already been deployed.
Peter Cryan, Director of Equipment R&D at Arby’s, notes: “These Cook & Hold ovens have had a dramatic impact on productivity in our kitchens. With the added SiteSage integration and automated HACCP reporting, food quality and food safety are enhanced and the labor savings significantly increased.”
Jay Fiske, VP of Strategy & Operations for Powerhouse Dynamics adds: “This has been a productive partnership that has created new capabilities and opportunities while improving product quality and reducing costs for Arby’s. Powerhouse Dynamics can now offer equipment manufacturers a complete end-to-end ‘Internet of Things’ solution that not only captures data and delivers it to the cloud, but also analyzes, processes and presents that information in a way that delivers concrete benefits to both the manufacturer and the customer.”
Powerhouse Dynamics will be expanding the SiteSage Smart Kitchen module over the coming months with direct integration into additional kitchen equipment.
